Top 5 Grey Paint Colors For Every Home

Which Grey Paint Is Best?
It’s true that white is a difficult color to pick when painting your entire house, white. But I find grey can also go wrong quickly when it comes to all the different choices.
There are SO MANY options and I find it helpful when people share their top favourite choices for white and grey paint so here you go! I hope they are helpful if you are needing a jumping off point for which greys you are going to sample on your walls or for your next project.
You can also now march into the paint store and look like you know what you are doing with your already selected paint colours ….. unlike the many times I have stood in front of the color swatches with my mouth hanging open and in a dazed stupor when someone comes up to ask me if I need help and I’m like yes….. but I don’t even know where to start.
Color Match or not to Color Match?
A side note about paint. It has been recommended to us by an actual professional, that it is always best to get your paint mixed at the actual place that makes the color you want.
What I mean by this is, even though you could take the classic grey by Benjamin Moore color card into Sherwin Williams and ask them to mix that color for you, you may not get an EXACT match and for that you need to go to the actual store aka Benjamin Moore to have that color mixed.
I have included photo swatches from the internet for these colours, but when you compare them to what I have painted on the wall in the flip house you will note they look nothing alike.
You should not pick your paint swatch off of an image you found on the internet for this reason. Always, always sample paint on your own walls or swatch it on a board and carry it around the room you want to paint to make sure it looks good in your space. Paint can and will look totally different from house to house and this is due to many factors such as lighting and decor etc.
List of Top 5 Grey Paint Colors
Here is a list of my top 5 grey paint colors that work well in almost every home.
- Repose Grey by Sherwin Williams
- Classic Grey by Benjamin Moore
- Agreeable Grey by Sherwin Williams
- Lattice grey by Sherwin Williams
- Light French Grey by Sherwin Williams

Classic Grey by Benjamin Moore

Classic grey by Benjamin Moore is they grey I am most comfortable with and have used the most. Our builders used it in our previous home and I loved how soft and mellow it was. With just the perfect hint of beige this grey is what you would call a greige and not a very cool grey.
I prefer greys that lean towards the warm side instead of being really cold. I remember when people first started painting their homes grey and everyone though it would look cold and well like concrete. But if you pick a grey with lots of warmth it is actually very inviting and not sterile feeling at all!
We have used classic grey in many other projects since and it has never failed us. I do still recommend a paint sample on your own walls just to make sure it doesn’t lean to green but you don’t have to fear this shade of grey going to purple or blue which is the danger with most grey paint colors. It is a safe choice and always looks stunning!
Repose Grey by Sherwin Williams

Repose grey by Sherwin Williams is a very popular grey paint color at the moment. The reason for this is that it has an almost muddy look to it and goes well with warm interiors.
We used repose grey in our last flip house project, however we did lighten it by 50%. This is something you can do with any paint color if you find its too dark and you would like the same shade just lightened up.
Head into your local paint supplier and give them the paint color and number (these can be found on the paint companies website) and ask for it to be lightened by 25%-50%-75% whatever you like!
I love repose grey and find it is another grey grey paint color that works really well in most homes. This won’t be the paint color for you though if you are looking for something with a cooler undertone as it is very warm. However it is cooler than our next grey pick which is …
Agreeable Grey by Sherwin Williams

After classic grey my next favourite shade of grey paint is agreeable grey. I love agreeable grey because it has a lot beige undertones and looks lovely with more modern farmhouse, primitive styles that are becoming very popular right now.
I used agreeable grey on our vent hood over our oven because I wanted a shade that stood out from our cloud white walls in the kitchen but wasn’t too cool or too loud. It would make a great choice for kitchen cabinets and built ins especially if you already have white walls. I also love it for adding contrast by painting your trim and doors with agreeable grey and your walls cloud white by Benjamin Moore.
Lattice Grey by Sherwin Williams

For our last two options I wanted to share some more traditional cool grey paints. Both of these should definitely be swatched on your walls as they can lean purple depending on the direction your house faces and your decor.
I haven’t used lattice grey in any projects but we did sample it for the flip house we worked on and I loved it so much! In the end we went with the lightened repose grey just because we wanted it to be very neutral since it wasn’t our own home but if you are looking for a grey with a hint of more color this would be a great choice!
Light French Grey by Sherwin Williams

Lastly we have light French grey by Sherwin Williams. This is such a pretty shade of grey and feels so warm and inviting. It would perfect in a farmhouse or French country home. I love how soft and cozy it feels and it has quite a bit more depth to it then the other greys.
Again this is one you are definitely going to want to do a swatch on your walls for because of its cooler undertones that could read purple if not properly light. It’s so pretty and inviting and still feels warm even though its in a cooler family of grey.
