Printing Digital Art at Home

Printing Digital Art at Home

I recently came across this trick for printing digital art at home so it looks like an expensive piece of art work for your walls on instagram.
Art work is notoriously expensive, not to mention framing! It’s so nice to have an option now that costs the price of the paper plus any frames you have lying around. Or you can always find beautiful frames at local thrift shops too to save money.
Printing Art at Home
Before we get to the actual printing part, you need to have some art work to print!
My favourite website to get FREE digital art is PUBLIC DOMAIN PRINT SHOP.
The public domain print shop has taken the time to scour the public domain archives on the internet for a more curated selection to choose from.
there are multiple categories to choose from, I am partial to the scenery and floral prints myself.
A few other digital art work shops I love are:
Here are both the prints I used featured in our kitchen.

What paper to use when printing artwork at home
The most important factor when it comes to printing digital art at home is the paper you use.
You can buy canvas style paper that will give you the look of an original art piece and use it in your ink jet printer right at home!
This is the paper I bought and loved the results. If you don’t have access to this paper just search ink jet canvas printable paper.
Tips for printing at home on canvas paper
When it came to printing my dog print on the canvas paper I did end up have to print it twice. The reason for this was I didn’t like the yellow background tone in the actual print and instead wanted the canvas paper to be the background.
To achieve this look I took my digital file over to Canva (my favourite tool of all time). Once I had the print loaded on Canva and sized to 8×10 for my specific needs I used the background remover tool to get rid of the background color.
The background remover tool left me with only the black dog sketches and I was then able to save and print this new image on my canvas paper without the yellowy background color of the original print.
In order to use the background remover tool you do need to have a subscription to Canva as this tool isn’t available on the free canvas option.

Sizing your digital art work for printing
lastly before printing your digital art always make sure it is sized correctly. To do this using a Mac just double click the photo. This will open your photo in the preview app where you can click on the tools bar in the menu and adjust size.
If you want your print to be exactly 8×10 you may need to unclick the scale proportionally box. Keep in mind this will slightly distort your print so make sure you are happy with the way it looks prior to printing.
Next slide your paper into your printer and print! Thats it. Beautiful custom looking art work on a dime!
