My favourite decor accessory for the home is hands down throw pillows. A unique variety of pillows in your living room, family room or on your bed can totally transform the way a room feels. Not to mention they are also the easiest and most affordable way to update your room when you want your living room or bedroom to feel fresh.
In todays post I will be sharing all of my favourite sources for pillows! Most of these will be very affordable, and I will add in a few more expensive options, as well as where my fellow Canadians can purchase throw pillows too!
Where to buy throw pillows online

Pillows – The basics
When I am searching for some new pillows my main goal is not only to find a pillow in a specific color or pattern, I am really looking for pillows that are high quality and will add to my space, not take away from it!
A cheap looking pillow really stands out. Notice I didn’t say a cheap pillow, because there are TONS of amazing high quality pillows on the internet that are affordable.
So in order for any of these retailers to make the cut, I promise their pillows, or pillows from specific lines they carry, are good quality, high end pillows. That means no pillow covers without zippers.

A key ingredient for a good looking pillow is that its insert is down filled or “feather filled” and not a polyester fill. This makes your pillow pliable, and you will be able to add the chop to the top. They look the most natural and high end.
Most throw pillows purchased online will actually just be the cover and not the insert. In most cases you will have to purchase those separately. This is for the best, because in order to get the fullest looking pillow, you will want to size up one size. If your cover is 18 x 18 you will want to size up to a 20 x 20″ insert to make it nice and full and fluffy!
Where to buy the best throw pillow inserts
- Ikea, can be on the thin side so if you can’t size up you can also stuff your case with 2 inserts.
- H&M – H&M only has 20×20 or 24×24. If your stuffing a 20×20 you can try to get the 24×24 in there or use 2 20×20 inserts.
- Chapters/Indigo – Specifically Canadian
- Amazon option 1 – Super affordable pack of 2 down inserts!
- Amazon option 2 – This pillow is another favourite of designers, and is fairly affordable
If you live in Canada Amazon is not going to be your friend when it comes to affordable down pillow inserts. Try Ikea, H&M home or Chapters instead.

Budgets
We also need to keep in mind what the average price is for a pillow. An affordable pillow is going to cost you on average anywhere form $25-$40. This may still seam steep, I mean there just pillows right!? But don’t underestimate the power a couple beautiful throw pillows can do for a room. They may be small, but in the design world they are mighty!
When I say expensive I am talking about any pillows over $50. The most I have ever spent on a pillow was $80. I know it seemed crazy to me too. But if you think about how many small tchotchke decor items you can throw in your cart at Homesense, and before you know it you’ve spent $100.
You get home and add them to your living room but when you step back it feels like they hardly added any major design to your room. It’s always a better investment to buy bigger elements for your space, rather than a bunch of tiny ones when it comes to interior design.
Even though a pillow is still relatively small compared to say a couch or coffee table, the value it brings to the design of your room is large.

Let’s get shopping!
Ok now that I have justified why I would ever spend that much on a throw pillow, we can now move on and I will share all my affordable throw pillow sources, as well as a few higher end options!
Bonus for all my fellow Canadians, all of these options are available to you as well! If I list a retailer that only ships to the U.S. check out my post on how to ship from Target or Walmart.com into Canada (or any American only retailer) here.
Affordable options

One of the first places I look for affordable pillows is H&M home online. One thing to note is their pillows always always always look better in person then on the website. I always prefer a 20×20 pillow for the sofa and there’s are amazing. Lots of fun texture options and super affordable linens as well.

Studio Mcgee’s Pillow Line for Target
Target has a lot of cute pillows however most of them do not come with a zipper closure. Because they come with an insert this means you will be stuck with a cotton or poly fill insert and won’t be able to swap it for a down insert. The Studio Mcgee line however comes with zipper closures so you can easily swap the inserts! Bonus they are all beautiful, and mimic really high end luxury designs I have seen on the web.

Chapters/Indigo is a Canadian retailer that primarily sells books BUT ALSO sells really cute home decor! My favourite line to watch is OUI.

TJ Maxx is the online version of Homesense, Homegoods, Winners etc. They only ship to the U.S however you could use my tutorial for shipping to Canada if you’re Canadian like me OR head over to your local Homesense/Homegoods to shop their selection.
High End options

If you are looking for a shop that will help you create a full stylized look in one place, Danielle Oakey is my favourite. Every pillow is beautiful and they all work together. They are on the expensive end though, so like me you may have to select one or two you love and mix high and low to create a similar look

Another great option is Laurel and Blush Co. My sister has quite a few of their pillows and they are stunning. Steer clear of any with tassels on the corners, as she had every single one of hers fall off within a couple months, but otherwise these are beautiful pillows, in unique patterns and colors. She also makes pillow combination sets to help take the guess work out of what pillows look good together!

I always check out Townes and Rowe Home for fun boho style pillows. This is where I got my polka dot pillow from that I love, and she really has a great selection! Again these are more expensive but she often has some pillows discounted so that helps!

My first high end pillows came from a collaboration I did years ago with Motif Pillows, and they are still one of my favourite sources for beautiful pillows. Super well made and lots of interesting fun patterns you don’t see other places. Definitely a must stop shop for pillows even if its just for inspiration!
