Modern Farmhouse kitchen with black cabinets and wooden open shelves. We just completed phase one of our kitchen makeover last fall. We still have some changes we would love to make in phase 2. I would love to add in some open shelves covering more than half the kitchen AND paint the cabinets a soft black.

I have been dreaming of doing a couple more changes to our modern farmhouse kitchen. We have already taken down the track lighting and added in new lighting. We painted our laminate countertops, not once but twice. And put in a farmhouse sink.
Now I would love to take down half the cabinets in the kitchen and install two wooden open shelves. Maybe with peg rails attached …
I also have been drooling over all the modern farmhouse kitchen inspiration on Pinterest and found a common theme to what I was pinning. Black cabinets! I never thought I would want to paint our kitchen black, but I am loving the moody look of all things black cabinets. Here are my favourite kitchens from other bloggers!

The only thing that will be a challenge will be reorganizing the kitchen to fit all of the items I don’t want in display in cabinets and figuring out what I do want on the shelves and maybe even picking up a couple new pieces 🙂
My solution for this has been to take everything out ahead of time. Before we start any construction, and make sure I have homes for all our kitchen tools.
I was able to find a home for all our stuff we don’t want on display! Yay! So now on to the fun part. Some modern farmhouse kitchen shelf decor shopping!

Stay tuned for more posts and videos on our upcoming phase 2 kitchen makeover. We may stop at phase two and call it done, depending on how long we live here. I am guessing in at least another 5-7 years the existing cabinets that we won’t be removing may need to be replaced. But until then we will make due with what we have!
