We have had a variation of white floating shelves in our living rooms for the last 6 years and I am still not tired of it. In our old house, I was stuck on how to decorate a large blank wall in our living room. I ended up hanging a mirror in the centre, surrounded by 4 picture frames on each side and then 3 white floating shelves branching out from the frames on either side. Little did I know this design would become a huge hit, and land us on the cover of a home decor magazine. Blank walls can be intimidating and knowing what to fill them with can feel overwhelming not to mention cost a ton of money.
We ended up selling this house and moving into our current home where I added more floating shelves. This time I went with a large white floating shelf as the main focal point and two smaller shelves off to the side. The reason I love using shelves as a foundation piece for decorating is the flexibility they give you to change up your decor with the seasons and showcase items in beautiful little vignettes.
The great thing about floating shelves is they are fairly universal when it comes to design styles. I didn’t want shelves that were rustic, and I wanted something clean and simple so that my decor could shine instead of the shelves. We are still using the same brand of floating shelves (source 1) we had in our old home, but I included in my shopping guide some other options for you!
