Best digital art shops for budget friendly vintage art –
Digital art has come a loooong way! One of my favourite types of art to buy in the digital format is vintage prints. These are paintings that are over 100 years old and are now free for shops (or yourself) to print.
You can find vintage art work files from the National gallery of art or the Smithsonian for example however there are hundreds of thousands to choose from. That is why I love to shop from small shops who have done the work for you and curated beautiful collections!
Some of my favourites are:
What paper to print on
When it comes to making your digital vintage file look like the real thing when printed, you need to pick the right paper.
I printed ours on bamboo paper and it looks like a real painting!
Instead of printing it on photo paper, that even when you select matte, still ends up looking a little shiny. Bamboo paper is soft, and has no shine at all. It also feels like a real painting!
I got ours printed at our local London Drugs (not sponsored). They also ship if you aren’t located near one. As an alternative you could search bamboo printing sources in your area.
But its pricey
The only thing with bamboo paper is it can cost a little bit more than having your print printed on photo paper.
I originally wanted my print to fit my 16×20 frame however the price jump from an 11×14 to a 16×20 doubled! So my next tip is to using a mat with your print to maximize price and not wreck the budget!
When it comes to purchasing a mat for your frame I always like to find an off white color. I prefer it to a bright white and I think it adds to the vintage vibe.
Leave out the glass
My last tip for achieving that real vintage art work from your digital print is to leave out the glass from the front of your frame. This helps your eye to think the print is really an original painting because you can see more of the artists brush strokes without the glass. Like most things when it comes to design, it really is all in the details!
