It’s true we have a very small master bedroom and recently I shared the design details about our makeover we did on this space ( you can find that post here). Today I wanted to share a video of the entire room, so you can see the full scope of the makeover as well as our favourite small space storage Ikea hack, using the Ikea Shoe Cabinet!
What are some alternative ways to use the Ikea Shoe Cabinet for Storage
We love the Ikea Shoe storage cabinet, and have one in our bedroom, however we do not use it to store shoes! This may be one of the things I receive the most questions about whenever I share our bedroom on Instagram!
Simple Ikea Shoe Cabinet Hack –
We actually use the Ikea shoe cabinet for storing my husbands socks and other items that do not require folding! This is a great piece of furniture for spaces that do not have a lot of room. Our bedroom is very small however this piece still allows plenty of room for my husband to walk by on his side of the bed.
I love that this piece also gives me another space for decorating hah, and have used it to show off a pretty plant and candle. We also hung a mirror above it and also use it as my makeup counter. I love applying my makeup in natural lighting and our bathroom doesn’t have a window, so you will find me here every morning applying my makeup!
How to dress up an Ikea Shoe Cabinet –
We have left our Ikea dresser as is, however I would love to see it with the hardware changed out. It also could easily be painted by using a great oil based bonding primer (this is my favourite).
I have painted the Hemnes dresser from Ikea. It is the same as the shoe cabinet in material and sheen, and I used an oil based bonding primer. The paint has held up for 7+ years without scratching, no sanding required!
Bedroom makeover on a budget
Check out the video below to see our entire Master Bedroom. I have included photos of what it looked like prior to our boho makeover. You can see what a dramatic change a little bit of paint and a new headboard can make!
