Crafts for Teens and Tweens!
Disclaimer, I am a mom of two tween girls ages 10 and 11, and I also come from a house of only girls. I have a twin sister and little sister who was 5 years younger than us. And on top of being surrounded by girls, my twin sister had 4 boys!
We homeschool our children, and subsequently we are often looking for extra-curricular projects they can do from home, because we are home A LOT! Craft projects fit the bill when you’re looking for something to do that doesn’t require leaving the house, for both boys and girls.
Whenever I talk to fellow moms, one area they are often overwhelmed in, especially homeschooling families, is providing good craft or art projects for their teens and tweens.

Long gone are the days where tossing a toilet paper roll and some pipe cleaners to your kids would suffice to keep them busy for hours. But it can definitely feel overwhelming thinking of craft projects, especially when maybe you yourself aren’t particularly crafty.
My mom did not homeschool us, but all three of us girls loved to do crafts and art projects however we definitely found, growing up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, the options for crafts seemed limited.
Now days there is a plethora of options for craft tutorials that tweens and teens can do. I am going to share a round up of our girls tried and true favourites as well as some new ones they are planning to tackle.
Crafts for the entrepreneurial tweens and teens
Just like when I was a teenager, my girls are always looking for things they can sell! This is for more doable nowadays because we have platforms like Etsy, where your kids CAN actually sell products, and quite easily too.

I always encourage my girls that in order to sell something, you have to be really good at it. And the only way to get really good at it, is to practice! Once you have practiced and are good at any of these craft projects, now its time to put your own personal artistic flair into it.
The world needs who you were made to be! So practice practice practice, and don’t forget to let your creativity fly. Before you know it you will have a product people will want to buy.
So with that said, here are our top 10 picks for great crafts for teens, tweens and beyond!
1. Embroidery for tweens and teens
Embroidery is a great craft for teens and tweens. The materials and supplies are very inexpensive, and you don’t need a ton of stuff to get started. Your local craft store like Michaels or if in the States Hobby Lobby will have everything you need to get started.
There are also a ton of embroidery kits you can purchase which is ideal for someone just starting out who wants to learn the skills first before launching into creating their own designs. Etsy is my favourite resource for embroidery kits. Here are a couple shops with cute options for teen or tween, but there are hundred to check out.

4. Waldorf Dolls
I have always wanted to learn how to make a doll! This year my oldest daughter and I are making these adorable Waldorf dolls, and although they look like they would be super complicated it turns out they aren’t.
This is another great craft project that your teen or tween could make as a gift and eventually sell. These dolls sell for quite a lot of money online, so once you get good at them you could have quite the business on your hands.
Here is the pattern we are using for our dolls. This is just the pattern for the dolls body. On top of purchasing this pattern you also need to purchase all the materials, as well as watch this tutorial on YouTube for actually making the doll.
5. Needle Felting
Needle felting is essentially sculpting but with wool! This is such a fun craft, and the projects you can make with needle felting are endless! We started with some cheap needle felting kits from Amazon. These kits come with a variety of synthetic wool, as well as all the tools you will need to begin.
Once you really get going with it you can start purchasing actual wool for your projects for a nicer end product. I like to buy needle felting supplies and wool from this Canadian seller. Etsy also sells lots of needle felting kits, here are a few of my favourites below.

6. Miniature Clay Creations
We recently got into making miniature clay food and adding magnets to the back for the fridge. Like many of the other crafts I shared these make great gifts. Surprisingly miniature clay creations are a huge selling product on Etsy. People seem to be buying them for decor etc. for doll houses. Think mini plants, mini food, and home decor.
Here is a video for creating clay Macaroons. This is great starting point for learning how to shape and bake clay in the oven. There are lots more video tutorial on YouTube for making miniature clay food etc.
7. Weaving on a loom
A craft we learned a couple years ago is weaving on a loom. Wall weavings are a super popular trend in home decor, and this is a very simple craft that tweens and teens will love.
You can purchase looms online, we have this one, or you can make one out of a frame and some string. I used this method when I taught weaving to our church ladies group years ago and it works just great for creating a woven wall hanging on.

One of my favourite sources for woven wall hanging supplies and great tutorial is Spruce and Linen. You can check out her Etsy shop here. Here is a video for one of her wall hanging tutorials.
